Even if you have seen Tom and Jerry bingeing on milk and cheese, you should know that cats aren’t made to have dairy in any form. That makes it super clear that although cats like cheese, it is not good for their digestive system and you shouldn’t feed them cheese at all.

What About Non-Dairy Cheese?

If you think cats are lactose intolerant then what cheese is safe for cats? Even if you are trying to feed non-dairy cheese to your cat, it won’t be safe for them either. Even non-dairy cheese contains a high amount of fat and salt which isn’t ideal for a cat’s growth and development. This makes it completely true that any kind of cheese or dairy product is quite harmful to a cat’s digestive system. Also, these are the other items you shouldn’t feed your cat.

Harmful Food for Cats

There are some harmful foods for cats that you should never feed them no matter what. We have mentioned a few of them here:

Chocolate

Chocolate is as fatal for cats as it is for dogs. Chocolate contains Methylxanthines which can cause issues like diarrhea, vomiting, seizures, and even increases heart rate in cats. In fact, in severe cases, cats can also suffer heart failure or coma.

Onions and Garlic

Whether it comes to raw onions and garlic or cooked, you shouldn’t feed them to your cat in any situation. In fact, even chives and leeks can be dangerous for cats as all of them cause anemia in cats. Some common side effects of these foods in cats are nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, etc.

Grapes and Raisins

Even a small amount of grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in cats. Other common side effects of feeding grapes and raisins to cats have decreased urination, lethargy, reduced appetite, abdominal pain, etc.

Raw Meat, Eggs or Fish

Just like humans, cats shouldn’t be eating raw meat, eggs, or fish. This can cause E. Coli poisoning or Salmonella in cats which can further be transmitted to humans too. Whereas, raw eggs can cause issues in a cat’s skin and coat too.
